AutoCAD Electrical 2012
AutoCAD® Electrical software is the AutoCAD® software for electrical controls designers. Created for electrical control systems, AutoCAD Electrical design software includes all the functionality of AutoCAD plus a complete set of electrical CAD features. Comprehensive symbol libraries and tools for automating electrical design tasks help to save hours of effort, so electrical engineers can spend more time innovating.
AutoCADŽ Electrical software, the AutoCADŽ software for electrical control design, helps to automate design tasks. AutoCAD Electrical includes all the functionality of AutoCAD, plus a complete set of features designed specifically for electrical controls designers. Comprehensive symbol libraries and tools for automating electrical engineering tasks can help you increase drafting productivity and gain a competitive edge.
Features
Symbol Libraries - Electrical Drafting Features
AutoCAD
Electrical software comes with more than 2,000 standards-based
electrical schematic symbols. A simple, menu-driven system for inserting
devices—including electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic—enables you to
quickly build standards-based electrical control designs by selecting
frequently used devices from a menu. Symbol libraries include support
for the AS, GB, IEC, JIC, and JIS standards.
AutoCAD Electrical
also includes all the functionality of AutoCAD® software plus a
comprehensive set of functions developed specifically for designing
electrical control systems. Specialized features such as trim wire, copy
and delete component or circuit, and scoot and align components make it
much easier to create electrical drawings quickly.
Automatic Wire Numbering & Component Tagging
Automatically
assign unique wire numbers and component tags in your electrical
drawings, reducing the time you spend tracking design changes and
reducing the resultant errors. AutoCAD Electrical automatically places
sequential or reference-based numbers on all wires and components based
on the chosen configuration. If no clear spot is found, AutoCAD
Electrical searches for a clear spot and automatically draws a leader
back to the wire.

Automatic Report Generation

Report
generation in AutoCAD Electrical is simple, customizable, and gives you
the option of running multiple reports with a single command.
Automatically generate reports that cover bills of material (BOM),
from/to wire lists, PLC I/O, terminal plans, cable summaries, and
cross-referencing reports.
Real-Time Error Checking
Avoid
costly errors before the build phase begins by catching and removing
errors during design. AutoCAD Electrical monitors and alerts users to
potential design errors as they occur by constantly comparing the
requested changes with the current project.
Real-Time Coil & Contact Cross-Referencing
Reduce
the risk of assigning too many contacts to any relay, and minimize time
spent manually tracking assignments. AutoCAD Electrical sets up
parent/child relationships between coils and contacts, keeping track of
how many contacts are assigned to any coil or multi-contact device, and
alerting users when they have exceeded the limit.

Create Smart Panel Layout Drawings
With
AutoCAD Electrical you can extract a list of electrical schematic
components for placement into panel layout drawings. Choose the panel
location and a physical representation of each device to be inserted
into the layout and a “link” is automatically created between the device
and its representation. Any changes to the electrical schematic or
panel representation will update the other non-schematic items, such as
wire ducts.
Generate PLC I/O Drawings from Spreadsheets
AutoCAD
Electrical gives you the ability to generate a comprehensive set of PLC
I/O drawings by simply defining the project’s I/O assignments in a
spreadsheet. AutoCAD Electrical then automatically creates drawings,
complete with ladders per the drawing configuration, I/O modules,
addresses and description text, and component and terminal symbols
connected to each I/O point. This report can be exported to the PLC
(programmable logic controller) program.
Share Drawings with Customers & Suppliers
Easily
exchange data with customers or suppliers in native DWG™ format. Edit
and view AutoCAD Electrical drawings in any DWG-compatible program, such
as AutoCAD® or AutoCAD LT® software. When designs are edited by outside
sources, AutoCAD Electrical can create a report of any modifications
made to the drawings by others.
Reuse Existing Drawings
Get
a head start on your electrical design projects by reusing drawings
from another project. Make a copy of a specific part, or reuse an entire
drawing set when starting a new design. Save frequently used circuits
for reuse in future designs. AutoCAD Electrical automatically renumbers
the wires and devices to match the configuration of the current drawing
or project in which they are placed.
Standards-Based Drafting & Component Libraries

using AutoCAD Electrical control design software. Compete globally with
support for international standards and comprehensive libraries of
manufacturer content and symbols.
Circuit Design & Reuse

Dynamically
generate rules-based electrical control circuits based on defining
functional requirements, such as components, wiring, ratings, and
catalog data. The Circuit Builder gives you the information you need to
make good electrical engineering decisions that are also environmentally
"green."
Smart Panel Layouts

AutoCAD
Electrical software makes it easy to quickly create "smart" panel
layout drawings. The software systematically checks for missing devices
and creates an electronic link between the representation of the device
in the schematic and panel drawings.
AutoCAD Electrical commands
are aware of location boxes, so you can more easily identify locations
for a device or group of devices, resulting in more accurate panel
layouts. In addition, Item Numbering supports fixed item numbers on
panel components, helping to save time and reduce the potential errors
inherent in resequencing item numbers.

AutoCAD
Electrical software makes it easier to manage and edit terminals and
jumpers throughout an electrical control design project, saving you time
and increasing the accuracy of your electrical designs.
Programmable Logic Control Tools

AutoCAD
Electrical includes a set of tools specifically designed to increase
your productivity and accuracy when working with programmable logic
control (PLC) drawings.
Automatic Project Reports
Drastically
reduce the time and errors associated with manually generating and
updating reports. Report generation in AutoCAD Electrical is simple,
with a variety of automatic reports, including bills of materials
(BOMs), cable lists, terminal reports, and from/to wire lists. The
report function gives you the option of generating multiple reports with
a single command and includes flexible export options.
Integrated Data Management
AutoCAD
Electrical control design software includes fully integrated data
management tools for workgroups that securely store and manage
work-in-progress electrical design data and related documents.
Library Standards
AutoCAD
Electrical 2012 includes an enhanced library of standards and two new
sets of library symbols to comply with both IEEE 315/315A and IEC-60617
standards. With support for international standards and comprehensive
libraries of manufacturer content and symbols, AutoCAD Electrical helps
you to easily create standards-based designs that comply with industry
requirements and compete globally.

Streamlined Schematic Component Updating
The
specialized drafting features in AutoCAD Electrical software can save
hours of design time. Users of AutoCAD Electrical 2012 can now copy
information from a one-line component to a schematic component, which
helps streamline the process of editing component information.
Update Components from Catalog Database
AutoCAD
Electrical 2012 control design software makes it easier to assign a
catalog value to a component. The component updates with related values
from the catalog database. If these related values change later in the
database, you can update the components with the new values. This
capability updates many values such as Schematic parent pin list,
Weblink, Textvalue, and Terminal properties, helping you save time and
increase the accuracy of your designs.
